Bhavana Sivakumar, Ph.D.
Internal Medicine, University of Cincinnati College of Medicine
Post Doc Fellow
Dr. Sivakumar received her PhD in Cardiovascular Pharmacology and Toxicology from SASTRA University, India, under the mentorship of Prof. Gino A. Kurian. Her doctoral research focused on understanding the pathophysiological changes in the cardiovascular system caused by air pollution exposure and exploring pharmacological interventions for mitigating these effects. Dr. Sivakumar's work earned her the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Senior Research Fellowship, following her initial role as a Junior Research Fellow in the same lab. Throughout her PhD tenure, Dr. Sivakumar developed expertise in various animal models, including myocardial infarction, myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury, vascular calcification, and diabetes models. Her research not only involved in vivo studies but also incorporated molecular biology techniques and cell culture experiments. Currently, Dr. Sivakumar is expanding her research as a post-doctoral researcher at Dr. Wei's lab, investigating the mechanistic insights into mitochondrial epigenetic modifications, particularly in the R-loop region, under different cardiomyopathy conditions.
